Dr. YU Kai

Dr. Kai YU, who is the founder & CEO of Horizon Robotics Inc., has been devoted to the technological innovation and commercial application of AI chips. He is a well-known machine learning expert, a member of New Generation of AI Strategic Planning Committee of the Ministry of Science and Technology as well as a member of China Securities Regulatory Commission on Science and Technology. He has launched a number of innovation projects, including the Baidu Institute of Deep Learning (IDL), Baidu autonomous driving project and Baidu PaddlePaddle in 2012-2015. Dr. Yu was the director of the laboratory at NEC American Institute, and he is one of the earliest scholars to be engaged in the research of deep neural networks in the world. He has published papers with more than 18,000 citations. Dr. Yu received the Best Paper Runner-up Award of ICML-2013, and served as the chairman of ICML and NIPS which are the top machine learning conferences. He is the first scholar to win the world championship in ImageNet, which is a famous image recognition test. In 2001, Dr. Yu has been an adjunct professor in the Computer Department at Stanford, teaching the lesson of “CS121: Introduction to AI”. Before joining the NEC American Institute, he worked as a senior research scientist at the Neural Computing Laboratory at Siemens Germany. He received his B.Sc and M.Sc degree from Nanjing University and his Ph.D. degree from University of Munich.
